Morgan Wallen was caught using the N-word on camera — an incident that brought swift action from the country music community.
Wallen hasn’t said anything about the incident aside from his initial apology to TMZ who broke the story on Tuesday, February 2nd.
The country singer is seen on a video first posted by TMZ with a group outside of his Nashville home reportedly using a racial slur and profanities.
“Take care of this “p*ssy-a** m*ther**ker” -,” Wallen can be heard saying, before adding “take care of this p*ssy-a** n***er” ,” apparently in reference to one of the people with his group.
Wallen later apologized for his action, he wrote;
“I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Media companies like iHeart Radio and CMT dropped Wallen’s music from their playlists after he was captured on video using a racial slur.
Wallen however continued to top the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with his new album despite the controversy over his use of a racist slur.

Several country music singers have since come out to defend Wallen. The likes of Jimmie Allen, Rakiyah Marshall, Kelleigh Bannen have all voiced their support for Wallen.

He added that;

In another tweet, Allen wrote;
“Accountability is very important..we all must be held accountable for our actions. Looking over my life and my mistakes I remember the consequences I had to face, but I also remember the people that didn’t give up on me and were willing to help me DO better. Thankful for those people.”

On her part, Rakiyah Marshall wrote;
“This guy has a heart. Maybe a little ignorant, for sure makes a lot of mistakes, may need a little extra love & care, has lost his fight with alcohol, but by no means is a racist.
Has a lot to learn about his missteps and it’s going to take a while. He is not perfect nor does he get a pass for his reckless behavior.
But he does not deserve this and I’ll stand by that. I’m not giving up on him. Hope the world gets to see the person I know in that picture ❤️”

Singer, songwriter, and Apple Radio host Kelleigh Bannen shared a personal response to the incident that ties forgiveness with accountability. Her perspective is that of a sister who lost two brothers to addiction (Marshall insinuates Wallen has a problem with alcohol).
