Country Music Legend, Kenny Rogers dies at 81

Country Music Legend, Kenny Rogers has passed on aged 81 years after entertaining his fans for over six decades.

The Country music legend who according to a family representative said that he, “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes” had lived his life fully gaining international dominance for decades.

“Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family,” they said in a statement.

Rogers who grew up in poverty on a federal housing estate in Houston, Texas has topped the country and pop charts during the 1970s, and 1980s having twenty-four number one hits, three-time GRAMMY® Award winner, six-time Country Music Award winner, was a Country Music Hall of Fame member, recipient of the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, CMT Artist of a Lifetime Award honoree in 2015 and has been voted the “Favorite Singer of All Time” in a joint poll by readers of both USA Today and People.

He started out recording with different bands with Kenny Rogers and the First Edition before he decided to launch his solo career as a solo artiste back in 1976.

He once summed up his popularity by explaining that he believed his songs “say what every man wants to say and that every woman wants to hear”.

Kenny Rogers is the 10th best-selling artiste in US history in terms of album sales having sold over 100 million copies worldwide and also being revered for being one of the most successful pop-country crossover acts of all time.

Throughout his career, Kenny Rogers who has worked with numerous talented fellow Country musicians like Dolly Parton has released hit songs like ‘The Gambler’, ‘Lady’, ‘Islands In The Stream’ together with Dolly Parton, ‘Lucille’, ‘She Believes In Me’, ‘Through the Years’ and so many more.

Kenny Rogers inspired both established artistes and fans alike throughout his music career and through his music, he has been able to leave an indelible mark on the history of American music.

In 2013, after his hit song ‘The Gamber’ found popularity yet again thanks to England’s Rugby Team making the song the unofficial World Cup anthem back in 2007, Kenny Rogers had to play the song twice at the Glastonbury Festival legends slot.

Apart from music, Kenny Rogers who got married five times and had five children was also a successful businessman investing heavily in property and the restaurant sector.
