Dillon Carmichael and his sweetheart Shayla Whitson have decided to take their relationship to the next level after two years of dating.
Carmichael went down on his knee and asked for Whitson’s hand in marriage on Saturday February 6th. The “Hot Beer” singer popped the question during a romantic photoshoot.
Carmichael and Whitson were celebrating their second dating anniversary when the latter surprised the former with a marriage proposal.
“As soon as I got down on one knee, she said ‘yes,’ I was so nervous that I pretty much blacked out! I don’t remember anything after that,” Carmichael told People, who shared photos of the engagement.
Carmichael first met Whitson in 2017 when she attended his show in Kentucky. He was too afraid to approach her but she went on to talk to him and the ice was broken.
“I even went over to my guitar player that night and was telling him about how beautiful I thought she was, right there in the middle of the show. I thought there was an angel standing there,” Carmichael recounted.
Carmichael and Whitson spend some time getting to know each other before they started dating officially. The Country singer was however sure his relationship with her would eventually lead to marriage.
“I had told my band I was going to marry her before we were even dating because I just knew it. I would even tell her, ‘I’m going to marry you one day,’ before we started dating, which is kind of an absurd thing to say. But now that it’s actually happening, I guess it’s not that absurd,” said Carmichael.
Carmichael and Whitson moved in together towards the end of 2019. She even co-starred in the lyric video for Carmichael’s romantic 2019 release, “I Do for You,” which was shot on their property.
